Fringe S1E02

Notes for Fringe season 1, episode 2, “The Same Old Story

01:00 Loraine Daisy is an early role for Betty Gilpin, who went on to star in, among other things, Mrs Davis (which is also streaming on itvx).

03:07 In the oddly dramatically lit operating room, a brief shot of the medical display monitor (Drägar Infinity Delta XL) shows “Simulated Patient Data” “Offline” and a relaxed heart rate of 60 bpm, which belies the drama of the scene. A few seconds later and the display has switched to “Network Alarm Error” / “ASY”. (“ASY” is short for asystole – cardiac flatline – which will appear when no cardiac data is received for four seconds.)

22:47 We get another look at the ugly inter-office intranet – apparently used by FBI, DOJ, CIA, DHS, DOD, DIA, and the President. The page header is set in a version of Chevalier, a banknote-looking font.

23:40 We briefly see Olivia using a BlueTooth headset. Hard to tell the model, it looks like a Samsung WEP650 but that was probably released after this was filmed.

32:40 “As it turns out, only one company has the patent.” Such an odd way of putting it, given that patents, generally, confer exclusivity.

37:50 Apparently the National Reconnaissance Office in 2008 has fully mapped out Boston in 3D allowing for an observer’s position to be determined from an image by landmarks. They refer to this as “triangulation”, but it’s technically known as a “resection” in surveying.

38:18 “I want satellite images for that area for the last 24 hours.” I’m sceptical that retrospectively requested high-resolution satellite imagery over multiple time points will be available, but sure, why not?
