This is typical Hollywood logic – the googles amplify light, so an already bright light will be amplified to the point of retina burning. Doesn’t work in real life, of course. If people had to close their eyes in case they were damaged by the light of a muzzle flash, they’d be unsuitable for any situation involving firearms. These googles have protections from being suddenly exposed to bright lights.
